Bonding Appointment
At this visit the braces are placed on your teeth. For the vast majority of our patients metal bands are no longer fitted on the teeth. This means a more comfortable and shorter visit and it also eliminates the need for separators (spacers). Care of the braces, including proper brushing and eating habits, is discussed with the patient and parents. You should allow 2 to 2 ½ hours for this visit.
Adjustment Appointments
During the early stages of treatment these visits are generally 8 to 10 weeks apart requiring approximately 30 minutes each. Routine adjustments can usually be scheduled anytime during regular office hours. Longer appointments, including repairs, are scheduled during school hours. As treatment nears completion these visits may be 4 to 6 weeks apart. The interval between appointments can vary greatly depending on the patient's treatment needs. It is very important that you continue to see your dentist for cleanings and checkups during your orthodontic treatment. Upon removal of the braces retainers are used to maintain the teeth in their new positions. These should be worn as directed in order to hold the teeth until the bone, gums and muscles adapt to their new positions.
